![]() ![]() It isn't quite so easy to do on a Volvo that has either a triangular split system or ABS though, as a single rear brake line is usually just split through a master cylinder attached to a new handbrake lever. It is most usually done for functional reasons rather than for use purely to hold the vehicle stationary, but there isn't any reason that it couldn't just be used for this purpose if it had a ratchet release mechanism?. This leaves the original handbrake intact and operating mechanically as standard. I'm not sure about your construction and use regulations there, but here there is nothing stopping us fitting a completely separate second hydraulic 'handbrake' that operates the rear calipers rather than the shoes/ drums.
